Already Dreaming of Christmas

I know it's kind of early to be talking about Christmas considering we haven't even celebrated Halloween, yet.  However, I am so excited because today was one of my favorite mail days of the year: I got my first Christmas magazine issue and it happened to be Midwest Living.  Last year's holiday issue featured an article about St. Charles, Missouri and their Christmas festivities.  As soon as my eyes beheld the photo of Colonial Inn I was sold!  I love, love, LOVE Christmas.   My husband and I were hoping to go make it there for a mini get-away this December but sadly, I don't think it will be in the budget.  (Not if we want to have money leftover for presents anyway.)  Oh, well, maybe next year.

This Christmas will be spent with my in-laws in Iowa.  Have you ever heard that song Christmas in Iowa by Mulberry Lane?  I thought it was so cool there was a song about Christmas specifically in Iowa...until I realized Mulberry Lane recorded a personalized version for practically every state in the Midwest except for Minnesota.

For years my family has been talking about starting some new Christmas Day traditions.  We usually open presents, eat, nap, play with presents, eat, nap some more, sit around and do nothing, eat... you get the idea.  I'd like to go ice skating but I think I'm in the minority.  Any ideas?
